Carrie Constance Chaffee - Titanic First Class Passenger

Mrs Carrie Constance Chaffee was 47 year passenger travelling first class aboard the maiden voyage of RMS Titanic with her husband Herbert Fuller Chaffee – returning home to Amenia, North Dakota, United States, after completing a trip to Europe. The couple joined Titanic at the start of her maiden voyage from Southampton, and both occupied cabin E31, located on the starboard side of the ship.

Carrie Constance Chaffee was born in Manchester, Iowa, United States on 28th August 1864. Her maiden name was Carrie Constance Toogood. She married Herbert Fuller Chaffee on 21 December 1887.

By the time they set sail aboard Titanic she had given birth to six children: Eben Whitney Chaffee, born on 28th September 1888, Dorothy Adelia Chaffee, born on 15th June 1890, Herbert Lawrence Chaffee, born on 24th June 1892, Esther Carolyn Chaffee, born 10th May 1895 (Esther had died on 10th January 1899), Florence Adele Chaffee, born on 2nd June 1900, and Lester Fuller Chaffee, born on 30th October 1902. Her husband was a businessman mostly involved with real estate and grain farming.

Carrie Constance Chaffee was rescued from the sinking Titanic on 15th April in Lifeboat 4, one of the last lifeboats to leave the ship. Her husband did not survive the disaster.

Carrie Constance Chaffee died in Amenia, North Dakota on 4th July 1931. She was buried at Amenia Cemetery, Amenia.
