Mark Fortune - Titanic First Class Passenger

Mark Fortune was a 64 year old first class passenger travelling aboard the maiden voyage of RMS Titanic with his wife Mary, their 19 year old son Charles and their grown up daughters Mabel (aged 23), Alice (aged 24) and Ethel (aged 28). The family, residents of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, were making their way home from a tour of Europe. Aboard Titanic they occupied cabins C23, 25 and 27, and had boarded the ship at Southampton on 10th April 1912.

Mark Fortune was born in Carluke, Wentworth County, Ontario, Canada on 2nd November 1847. He and his wife, Mary McDougald (born on 12th May 1851), had six children: Robert William Fortune (born in 1877), Clara A Fortune (born in 1879), Ethel Flora Fortune (born in 1883), Alice Elizabeth Fortune (born in 1887), Mabel Helen Fortune (born in 1888) and Charles Alexander Fortune (born in 1892). All but their two eldest children accompanied them abroad Titanic.

Long by the time he boarded Titanic he and his family were residents of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and he had made his fortune in the real estate business.

Mark Fortune was lost during the sinking of Titanic on 15th April 1912. His body is not known to have been recovered. His 19 year old son, Charles Alexander Fortune, was also lost; his wife and daughters were rescued in Lifeboat 10. His wife died on 8th March 1929.
