Clear Annie Cameron - Titanic Second Class Passenger

Miss Clear Annie Cameron was a second class passenger who boarded Titanic on 10th April 1912, and was sailing to New York in order to live and work in America. She was travelling aboard Titanic with her friend, Ellen Wallcroft. They were not originally intending to sail on Titanic but were amongst those who were transferred to the ship due to the coal shortage caused by a recent national coal strike in Britain.

Clear Annie Cameron was born on 8th March 1877 in Salford, Lancashire (today Salford is in Greater Manchester), United Kingdom.

At 11.40, when Titanic struck the iceberg, she was asleep in her cabin which she shared with her friend Ellen Wallcroft. Both she and her friend were lowered away from Titanic in Lifeboat 14, which was commanded by Titanic’s Fifth Officer Harold Lowe.

After arriving in New York she found work there as a maid, before moving to Philadelphia. She married Ernest William Francis on 29th April 1914. They soon after returned to the United Kingdom to live.

Clear Annie Francis died on 2nd February 1962 in Woking, Surrey, United Kingdom. She was cremated. Her husband died later in the year, on 17th September 1962.
