Boarding procedures at Liverpool for the Cedric

Post by Kim Theilmann »

Hello!

My first post... I am trying to write a story about my father's family and would like to include a description of the day his mother left Liverpool for the U.S.

They sailed on Saturday, 24 February, 1923 aboard the Cedric. Liverpool to New York.

I believe she and my aunt sailed third class. My grandfather had moved to New York 8 weeks earler. His brother may have been aboard working. He was an electrician for White Star and this was a frequent route for him.

Does anyone know what the typical boarding procedures were? When would they have purchased their tickets? Would this have been at the White Star offices in Liverpool or at a ticket agent? What time did the ship leave? Was it dependendent on high tide? I believe it left from the Prince's Dock in Liverpool, yes?

Can anyone give me an idea of what the day would have been like for my grandmother?

I want to include something about her remaining brothers saying goodbye, perhaps seeing her off, etc.

Thank you for whatever help you can give!

Kim
