Hans Kristensen Givard - Titanic Second Class Passenger
Mr Hans Kristensen Givard was a travelling aboard the maiden voyage of Titanic as a second class passenger.
He was born in Denmark in around 1882.
He had been living in Argentina but is said to have returned home to Denmark in the summers.
Paying £13 for his ticket, for some reason he decided to travel to America aboard Titanic, joining the ship at Southampton on 10th April 1912. It is said his family were unaware that he was on Titanic until after the disaster.
He did not survive the sinking of the ship on 15th April 1912. His body, listed as body 305, was one of the last of the 306 bodies to be recovered by the Mackay-Bennett, the ship that recovered most of the recovered bodies of Titanic’s victims.
A 1912 document concerning the recovery of his body held at the Nova Scotia Archives described him, when his body was recovered, as having very fair hair and moustache, and was wearing a dark brown striped suit, black overcoat, white shirt marked "D.M." and had one white shoe, and had upon him $55 in bills in pocket book, keys, silver watch and compass, £8/3/6 and foreign coins in purse.
Along with 120 other victims of the Titanic disaster he was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
