Harvey Collyer - Titanic Second Class Passenger

Harvey Collyer was a second class passenger travelling aboard Titanic with his wife Charlotte Caroline Collyer and their daughter Marjorie Lottie Collyer. They were intending to live and buy a fruit farm in Payette, Idaho, United States. The family boarded Titanic at Southampton.

Harvey Collyer was born on 26th November 1880 in West Horsley, Surrey, United Kingdom. He married Charlotte Caroline Tate in around 1903. Their daughter, Marjorie Lottie Collyer, was born on 28th January 1904 in Leatherhead, Surrey. By 1912 they lived in Bishopstoke, Hampshire, and he owned s grocery shop, as well as being well involved with the church he attended.

Before boarding Titanic they had sold their property, ready to start a new life in Idaho. They were encouraged to go by some friends of theirs who had previously made the journey and also for the benefit of his wife’s health. They boarded Titanic on 10th April 1912, sailing from Southampton to New York. The rest of their journey was to have been made by train.

Before Titanic arrived at Queenstown, Ireland, Titanic’s last stop at land, he wrote to his parents, and told them they were having a delightful trip, the weather was beautiful and the ship magnificent, and described Titanic as being like a floating town.

After Titanic struck the iceberg he went up on deck to investigate. Both his wife and daughter were rescued from Titanic in Lifeboat 14.

Harvey Collyer died in the sinking of Titanic on 15th April 1912. His body is not known to have been recovered.
