Mary Emma Corey - Titanic Second Class Passenger
Mrs Mary Emma Corey was a second class passenger travelling home to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States with her friend Claire Karnes.
Mary Emma Corey had been living in Burma, where her husband was employed by a petroleum company as a superintendent; Claire Karnes’ husband also worked there. Both Mary Emma Corey and her friend Claire Karnes were pregnant, so were making their home for that reason.
They both boarded Titanic at Southampton on 10th April 1912.
Mary Emma Corey, Prior to her marriage known as Mary Emma Miller, was born in Pennsylvania in August 1879.
Mary Emma Corey did not survive Titanic’s sinking on 15th April 1912. Her body is not known to have been amongst those recovered. Her friend, Claire Karnes, was also lost in the sinking.
Her name is included on the memorial of the grave of her sister Bertha Miller at Chartiers Cemetery, Carnegie, Pennsylvania. Inscribed on the bottom of the memorial is: "Mary lost at sea on the Titanic Apr. 15. 1912".
