Thornton Davidson - Titanic First Class Passenger

Mr Thornton Davidson was a first class passenger traveling back to Canada from a trip to Europe. He was travelling aboard the Titanic with his wife Orian Davidson, his father in law Charles Melville Hays, his mother in law Clara Jennings Hays, a friend of the family Vivian Ponsonby Payne and a maid employed by his father and mother in law, Mary Anne Perreault.

Thornton Davidson and his wife occupied a cabin together on the starboard side of the ship, cabin B71. They joined the rest of the group they were travelling with at Cherbourg. The rest of their group had joined Titanic at Southampton.

He was born in Montreal, Québec, Canada on 17th May 1890. On 3rd November 1906 he married Orian Hays. By the time he sailed aboard Titanic he operated a stock broker business, Thornton Davidson & Company.

Thornton Davidson died at sea in the Titanic disaster on 15th April 1912. His body is not known to afterwards have been recovered from the sea.

His wife and her mother and his mother’s maid were rescued from Titanic in Lifeboat 3. His father in law and Vivian Ponsonby Payne were also lost in the disaster.

There is a memorial to Thornton Davidson at Mount Royal Cemetery, Montreal, Québec, Canada.
